How do I check for a new version of NotifySync?
Posted by Adam Palmer on 01 Apr 09 11:39 AM

If you have had NotifySync installed for a while, a new version may be available. NotifySync may automatically alert you to a new version being available for download.

To update between minor versions of NotifySync use the following instructions:

To determine if there is a new version available and to install it, follow these steps:

If you are currently running v4.10 and later of NotifySync:

  1. Open NotifySync
  2. Pop up the menu
  3. Go to Preferences
  4. Go to Check for Updates
  5. The Blackberry will check for any new versions of the software. If new versions are available, these will be shown.
  6. If a component shows Status is "Installed" and Action is "None", then an update for that component is not required. For any updates that are required (Status: Older Version Installed, Action: Upgrade), tick the left hand box by pressing the space button.
  7. Select "Continue".
  8. If prompted "Are you sure", select "Yes"
  9. Updates will be installed. The phone may prompt to reboot at the end of the process.

Please note that from v4.10 onwards, the updater and core library are built in to NotifySync. Therefore if you are running v4.10, you will no longer find the icon to update within the downloads or applications folder, and must use the menu function within the software in order to update to a later version.

If you are currently running v4.9.1 and earlier of NotifySync:

Please note that the rest of this guide does not apply to v4.10 and later.

  1. On the Blackberry, go to the Notify Blackberry Installer icon. This is the black square with a red border, the word NOTIFY and a down arrow. Note: This may be in your downloads folder (v4.5 and above of the Blackberry O/S)
  2. The currently installed versions of NotifySync and the Core libraries are displayed.
  3. Select "Check for updates".
  4. The Blackberry will check for any new versions of the software. If new versions are available, these will be shown.
  5. If a component shows Status is "Installed" and Action is "None", then an update for that component is not required. For any updates that are required (Status: Older Version Installed, Action: Upgrade), tick the left hand box by pressing the space button. Ensure you tick all required updates including the Notify Core Library if an update is needed.
  6. Select "Continue".
  7. If prompted "Are you sure", select "Yes"
  8. Updates will be installed. The phone may prompt to reboot at the end of the process.

Note: On most occasions, only updates to NotifySync and the Notify Core Library are required. However occasionally you may also be prompted to upgrade the Notify Blackberry Installer itself. In these instances, first update the installer, restart the phone when prompted and perform the above actions again to then update NotifySync itself. If your Blackberry is running v4.5 O/S or later, your Notify Blackberry Installer icon is placed in the "Downloads" folder on your Blackberry by default. If you have previously moved this icon to the main screen, once the Notify Blackberry Installer has been updated it may once again be in the "Downloads" folder.

Once the new software is installed and you reboot, you may be prompted to update application permissions again. Ensure everything is set to allow, back out and save the change. Also if prompted that NotifySync is attempting to access phone information, do you wish to allow this, tick the "do not ask again" and select "Yes" or "Allow"
